Final Video

This is the final music video. We have changed a lot since the final draft. Since the last draft we have filmed more lip syncing shots and made slight changes to the start and the end of the music video. We have made the start and the end of the video like a film roll and the ending finishes with a television static shot. We have decided to do this as it matches the theme of our band and it enforeces the quirckiness of the band itself.
The lip syncing shots that we have re-filmed turned out much better than we hoped. We used a different camera during this round of filming. We used a GoPro 300 and the shots that we took with this made the shots a lot stronger than the other shots that we originally filmed. Also, confidence in front of the camera from our lead singer has increased and made the video look a lot more professional.
During a school skiing trip, we saw this as a perfect oportunity to film some shots for our video. We have added them into this final piece. We never really thought about it and we experimented with them and they fitted well into the song.

March 2015

By this time, we had finished our final video and were just making the final tweaks. we still feel there is some room to improve. This is the final video that we created.
from the previous draft there aren't many changes that we made. We only took out the black parts in some shots and replaced them with other shots to fit that space. We also kept with the theme of colours and made it bright and vibrant to fit with the rest of our video.

We have also finished our digipak in this time and through the feedback that we received from our teacher we made the digipak link with our band and also made the photos no compliment each other.
Below was what the digipak looked like when we first made it. The colours are pretty much the same and it also looks really simple. Our teacher said that we have to change some of the pictures as they don't suit the image of our band.

From looking at this feedback, we decided to take more photos and add them to the digipak and see how it turned out. This is what we made and is now our final digipak.

This is the final version of our digipak and there has been a lot of improvement. For example, we have chosen two photos that my group member took when she was in New York and we have edited the title over one, which will be the front of our digipak, and we have also edited ourselves walking into the picture.

Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Question 3

For our audience feedback we sat down some of our target audience to watch the video that we have produced and we asked the audience some questions to help us gain a clear picture of what the audience liked and disliked. The audience responded with the following and we looked to the feedback to see whether we agree or disagree with the statements that are made. We agree with the use of bright colours being effective as this appeals to the younger target audience and in turn adds to the theme of freedom that we wanted to portray to the audience.
The audience also commented on the relationship between the characters. The reason for the bond between the band members is that we wanted to make the relationship clear to the audience and to really sell the band image to the target audience.
We disagree with what the audience said about the concept shots. We feel that they make the theme stronger and really portray the theme to the audience. As one of the respondents said 'it shows the journey of the band' that is what we wanted to show the audience. The journey of the band is key for us to show as that is the reason behind the concept shots. We wanted the band to show the filming for themselves as the point of view shots make it look as if the band is travelling.
Disagree with changing the ending - feel that it is effective for the audience to see what the band is

Digipak

For our digipak, we wanted to target this more towards a younger audience. We stuck to using bright colours to compliment our video as most shots are colourful and bright. This was because our band is more aimed towards young children.

We looked at other digipaks for inspiration. We found other bands, not necessarily aimed at children but they use effects that as a group we wanted our band to look like. Our main focus was colour as this is what our band image has formed around, we also wanted various effects to compliment the colours that we were going to use. For example we looked at the following pictures and formed our digipak around it.

We looked at bands that had two boys and a girl to match our band. We also then focused on the genre of our song which was Indie Rock. The use of the overlapped shots were the main inspiration and that was the catalyst to us thinking of other pictures that suited out band.

Getting feedback from our target audience we decided to change some of the panels as we received saying that the panels don't compliment eachother as well as they could do. We then looked at other digipaks to then look at what they have done to make theirs. We then reverted back to the first inspiration and we created this.

This is our final draft of the digipak. As you can see some of the pictures have been kept the same although some have been altered slightly. This gives the band an image that the audience can relate to and remember the band image. we have taken our inspiration from the pictures above as we felt that the images suited our band image. Some of the pictures that have been used above have also been used in our website. This gives the audience a clear link between the two ancillary texts. The use of colours also link the video and the digipak together as the primary feature of our video has a clear use of colours.

February 2015

Draft 6 was completed by this time and through looking back at previous drafts, the video has improved over the course of a couple of months. We have used the lip syncing shots from filming in SeaWorld. We also filmed other lip syncing shots that were in front of a projector. We have added these in as we had taken the band shots out as we didn't feel they complimented the video as well as we hoped. Although, we still kept some in as we wanted the audience to see that they are playing a gig. However, some of the lip syncing in the shots didn't come out as well as we expected and we felt that we had to change the shots entirely. We looked at previous footage that we filmed and never used, and we found shots from filming in SeaWorld. We had some lip syncing shots that were never used and with the right effects they fitted perfectly into our video.

Throughout this month, a lot ofour work was focussed around the video and making that the best it could be and hopefully finishing it.

January 2015

This month we were adding tweaks to our final video. We filmed the final shots that we needed to make the video complete we also conducted some audience research to see what suits the audience. By this time we had completed draft number 5:

We had received a lot of feedback since our previous drafts. We were told at this time that band shots would have worked well. This is why we have put them into our video. We were also advised by our target audience that they wanted to see more of a development between the band and their travels. This is why we then went to SeaLife in Southend. We filmed many shots of us there however we haven't used all of them as we had over filmed and there wasn't enough room in the video! Some of the lip syncing shots in this draft we may change as feedback from respondents of our target audience stated that they feel that they aren't as strong as other shots.

This is where we also had completed our website. We made various drafts of the site before hand and they weren't as effective as the final draft. This is because we were still getting to grips with the software that we used to make the website. Our first draft was extremely basic and didn't reflect the band image at all.

This is the first draft of the homepage and it was very simple. It didn't include a logo or a background of us. It wasn't very interactive. This is the only problem that we had with our website, we wanted it to be interactive. We were also told this when we let two girls from our target audience preview the website. They also agreed that the website isn't interactive and makes them feel distant from the band. We then decided to make a new website, one which makes the audience feel connected with the band. This is the final product:

This website is much more effective as the background shows who we are and makes the audience aware of who we are! Below that there are pictures and contact details that fans can contact.

Website

The website that we created for our band was created on an internet software called Wix. This software at first was tricky to use, however after many drafts it became easier to use. I started to make the first draft of the website. I used many different technologies. I had to find different images and different styles to create the most effective website.

This is the first draft of the homepage of the website in comparison to the final website homepage:

The left image is the first draft of the website. The changes that i have made are the logo. I made the logo from scratch on the final website using Fireworks. I wanted to make the logo more relevant to the band image. The band is quite quirky and through making a logo and one that suits the band the audience can connect more with the band. That, for us is the whole purpose of the website. We want the audience to be able to connect with the band. We still kept the video on the front of the page as i found that the best way for the audience to see the video. The background however i changed as we asked 10 people what they thought of the background and the majority of the respondants said that the background isn't effective, although it is very nice, it doesn't reflect the band image. From hearing this feedback we changed the background to the band. This makes the whole homepage more relatable of the band.

Other changes that i made were i condensed the page number to just three as we felt that the more pages there are the less connected the audience is to the band. Instead of having numerous pages, i added all the information onto the homepage, just making the homepage longer to scroll down. I added the gallery, the about section of the band and the contact section to the homepage to keep it all together.

The homepage is much more interactive. We took this idea for the Katy Perry website as her website is extremely interactive, with photos to scroll over and links that connect the whole website to one another. Due to the lack of software that we could use we couldn't make the website to the same standard as Katy Perry's.

In comparison to the first draft, the homepage has much more on it for the audience to view. We feel that the band can become closer through the website to the audience.

Whilst making the website, and knowing that we wanted the website to be much more interactive so we decided to make a welcome page for the website. This enables the audience to be more interactive with the website.

This is the welcome page for our website:

The small door in the middle of the page is how the audience would enter the website. Inside the small door is a gallery of images. It clicks through adding a small effect to the welcome page.

Looking at our welcome page we decided to add a pop up window where fans can enter a competition. We done this so that it has more of a website effect. The pop up enables fans to enter their details with a contact form.

This goes with the feedback that we recieved from our audience. The said that the website should interact with the audience, and this enables the audience to interact.

Here are some other pages of the website. We kept the theme the same as the background is the same and the contents have been kept minimal.

We wanted to keep a shop within the website. Fans can then buy merchandise directly from the website.
This page is the tour page. It features a link to buy tickets for the tour, tour dates and a map of where the band is right now. This shows the audience where the band is and thus helping them to be more interactive.
